Good-bye To Mile High Pastrami And All That Jazz: Legendary Lenox Lounge And Stage Deli Close

Billie Holiday At The Lenox Lounge

It’s hard to imagine NYC without Jewish delislenox-loungeLnxLnge.Sign.2 and Harlem jazz joints, but in Gotham rising rents are always the culprit when fabled clubs and eateries shut the doors after decades. Midtown’s  Stage IMG_1104 Delicatessen just closed  and Harlem’s  Lenox Lounge goes out of business on New Years Eve. New tenants (the well-heeled, downtown  Nobu /Robert DeNiro crowd) will need to negotiate with owner Al Reed if they want to license the name. Let’s hope they respect the Lenox Lounge’s historical jazz heritage and original art deco details.
