AMC’s Mad Men is back for its sixth season on Sunday, April 7 at 9 p.m. with a two-hour premiere, the network announced today. (The Emmy Award–winning drama will settle into its regular time at 10 p.m. ET/PT the following week, with an episode directed by series star Jon Hamm.)
Peggy Olson is also back. The perfection of the period details for both sets and costumes are essential to the mid-century time and place retro realism of the show. But as the narrative shifts from a 50’s sensibility to the mad, mad mod world of the 60’s, will Peggy’s hair move with it? I mean literally move as in the loose, natural hair of the era. I’ve always been puzzled by her stiff, Aquanet-secured do in prissy defiance of the hair fashion of the young. Will she continue to have an Ann Landers/ Dear Abby do? Abby aka Pauline Phillips died recently at 94 and obit pictures reminded me a bit too much of Ms. Olson’s helmet head coiffure.
