Two Brides At Chanel : Karl Lagerfeld’s Poetic Endorsement of Marriage Equality in France

“I do not understand why people who live together cannot have the same security as those bourgeois who are married,” Lagerfeld told Reuters following the show. “Two women getting married, I find that natural, and having two mothers is a good thing.” –Karl Lagerfeld

This from Vogue UK:

“KARL LAGERFELD‘s decision to close his latest Chanel Couture show

with two brides holding hands was a declaration of support for marriage equality. The designer made the timely catwalk statement ahead of an expected announcement by French President Francois-Hollande on Friday – endorsing a controversial law to allow same-sex marriage in the country.

When asked if the use of the two catwalk brides was in support of the legalisation, Lagerfeld responded: “Of course it was.”–Vogue UK

I love his use of the term “craziness with discipline” to describe what haute couture should be (and is) consistently at Chanel. .Lagerfeld wrote the book on balancing the  bizarre with the beautiful, elegance with the ethereal. Spring/Summer 2013 is exquisite.
