There is no good reason why John Galliano, who certainly understands the self-expressive power of clothing, would dress like a Hasidic when attending Oscar De La Renta’s show at Fashion Week in NY. Hopefully, Oscar has buyer’s remorse over his efforts to assist the former Dior couturier in making a fashion industry comeback. The ability to drape a pretty dress with a multi-thousand dollar price tag does not ever excuse expressions of overt hate. Dressing this way is not a one-time lapse in taste but a symptom of something darker and very ugly in this man’s soul.
“A day after causing a stir and offending both Jews and non-Jews alike, fashion designer John Galliano ditched his Hasidic duds. The designer, who was fired by Dior for an anti-Semitic rant, was spotted wearing baggy camouflage pants, a baggy jacket, thick-rimmed glasses, and a wool cap as he took his dog for a walk in Manhattan on Feb. 13.
The change in couture came as New Yorkers continued to question his motive for wearing an ensemble that included curled peyos-like sidelocks, with a long, dark coat and hat to Oscar de la Renta’s Fashion Week show.“He said he loved Hitler,” noted warehouse owner Jacob Weiss. “I think he did this to insult.”
